Teal wool flared skirt dress

Now matter what I sew, I think I will always like dresses the best.

This is my a sort-of self-drafted pattern.  The bodice is princess-seamed Simplicity 2648.  The skirt is... an altered pattern! My aunt gave me "How to Use, Adapt, and Design Sewing Patterns" by Lee Hollahan for Christmas last year. The book's plain language and simple illustrations make alterations seem do-able.  I used a pencil skirt pattern, and slashed and spread the skirt, eliminating the waist darts, and adding about 5 inches to both the front and back pieces (so 20 inches total along the bottom perimeter of the circle) to turn this into a flared skirt.

The fabric is definite stashbusting: a deep, teal wool from bought from Mood right around when I started sewing.  And it barely wrinkles.  Don't you love a pleasant fabric surprise like that?

I wore this to work with a deep purple cardigan, the (faux) snakeskin belt, and heeled-platform loafers.  I felt great in it.  Can't beat a simple dress!

I like the way you wore it with the belt and contrasted with purple. Very nice!!

You have grown so much in your sewing and it has been a pleasure to be able to take this journey with you because this an amazing dress. Love the fact that you took a pattern and then drafted a new skirt to end up with his lovely dress!

Btw, did you move yet?

Firstlty its lovely to see you blogging again I have missed your posts. Secondly I love your dress especially in that you have drafted most of it yourself. I prefer completing dresses too as they are a whole outfit in one.
